SPECIAL LIVE WITH VARALAXMI SARATHKUMAR

“To prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found to protect life and health and ensure respect for the human being.”

This principle of the humanity is the foundational value at play in SAVE SHAKTI Foundation. Humanity in this sense is human behaviour that cares for other humans because of a profound and universally conviction that life is better than death.

Save Shakti foundation is a non-governmental organization that helps restore the rights of women and children to build a healthy society that promises equality, justice and dignity to all irrespective of their birth.

The Save Shakti foundation was formed in 2017 with a purpose to protect the rights of women and educate the under privileged community. With the 'Save Shakti' campaign, they present a two-point petition which will ensure that more women come forward and complain about instances of sexual harassment as well as get speedy verdicts.

The famous actress of Kollywood Ms .Varalaxmi Sarathkumar took initiative to start Save Shakti campaign in her fight against sexual harassment. Following the news of the alleged kidnapping and molestation of an actor in Kerala, the actress had spoken out on Twitter about how it was necessary for more women to speak up and not tolerate disrespect.

She raised her voice to appeal to the government to provide more Mahila courts which will help serve justice. Due to the lack of excessive Mahila courts women tend not to register their sexual offences and also there are a lot more pending cases which haven't even reached their hearing. Justice and verdict to be rendered within a stipulated time of 6 months. And 4 lakh people signed online to this petition.

The story of two ladies proved that women are often more capable than men of showing concern for the other people's feelings and connecting on a personal level.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and her mother Chaya Devi are the two strengths, who handled the tough situations with a sense of calm without getting aggressive, took the step to reflect domestic violence and the other social evils that still remain in the roots of the society. Their developmental programme's includes the livelihood for children and women, who are equally affected by the lack of resources.

The organisation is also working for child welfare, helping to educate them, and child abuse. Save Shakti have been actively involved in fighting this evil in our society. Varalaxmi's personal experience makes her to stand against child abuse. She says, “It is very difficult to find out about child sexual abuse or offer any kind of support, because in most of the cases, it happens with trusted people inside the family, so parents must get out of their discomfort zone and educate their children about this issue to keep them safe and sound”.

“Save Shakti” also provides a platform to all those who wish to support for a noble cause. It allows an individual to support for a cause of their choice while making sure that the organizations to which the funds are being transferred has been evaluated for transparency and credibility.

Save Shakti had contributed and played an important role in extending a helping hand to the migrants in providing food, water and transport during the difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Co-founder Chayadevi exclaims her love towards the pets as, “We cannot not speak in the animal lingo, but that does not mean we cannot speak the universal language of love. Just like us, they too have right to live a life free from pain, hunger, homelessness and suffering. Ever since the Covid-19 lock down started, we have been actively taking care of them, apart from rescuing and adopting the strays. And that includes cattle, dogs, cats, and even snakes”!

In the past 2 years, Save Shakti has actively rescued several abused animals, ensured that the volunteers fed strays regularly, and facilitated the adoption of several senior dogs, puppies and breeds like Pit-bull that are greatly discriminated against.
