Chitra Selvakumar is a woman of great strength and determination who has dedicated her life to empowering weavers across India. As the owner of CHITRA'S Collections, she has bridged the gap between weavers and end buyers, offering high-quality products at weaver prices. What started as a small venture promoting the weavers of Tamilnadu and Kerala for Kanchipuram Pure Silk Sarees has now diversified into the fashion industry, with a team of over 100 employees.
Chitra's inspiration comes from her father, who was a manufacturer and exporter of T-shirts. She has been a go-getter since her childhood and shifted her base from Tirupur to Mumbai after her marriage to an SBI Officer. Sadly, she lost her husband two months ago, but being a determined achiever, she decided to move ahead in her career without succumbing to grief.
Apart from being an entrepreneur, Chitra is also a motivational speaker, consultant, and guide to many startups. She has actively associated with local NGOs and supports the needy. She has NLP and Reiki healing training to her credit and is always eager to learn and grow.
Chitra has received numerous awards and recognition for her work with weavers and her contributions to the fashion industry. In 2022, she was awarded the "Women of the Future" award from AIWAA Awards. In 2018, she won the Nakshatra Award for Fashion Designing by Shine Trust, Chennai. She has also participated in various fashion shows as a costume designer and worked as a brand partner in many events.
She designed costumes for physically challenged achievers in the Dhiman Divyanga fashion show and the CRPF for volleyball teams. She also designed costumes for Miss Raigad, Face of Thane, Mr, Miss, and Mrs. Madarase, and Miss India Diva. Chitra is also a proud recipient of Asia's highest honor, the "She Asia-2022" award.
