Vagamon is a place located partly in the district of Idukki, Kerala.
It’s one of the most recommended Hill station which usually remain untouched with usual tourist crowd or might be ‘Travels’ aren’t suggesting this place to their clients, unlike Munnar! It’s in altitude of 1100m above sea-level but, is well connected by road.It features among the 50 most attractive places to visit in India' listed by National Geographic Traveller.
Buses, cabs & private vehicles regularly run between Vagamon & major Kerala cities like:
1. From Trivandam takes - 5 hr 20 min (190.5 km) via MC Rd and NH 183A.
2. From Kochi takes - 3 hr 19 min (101.6 km) via NH85.
3. From Munnar takes - 3 hr 23 min (94.5 km) via SH41 &
4. From Erattupetta takes - 1 hr 3 min (27.0 km) via SH14.
By Train – It takes from Kottayam (42.5 km), Kuttikanam at a distance of 22 km or (ETM) Ettamanur (38.94 km).
Nearest Airport is Cochin, 94 km to Vagamon.
In Vagamon, one can enjoy a lot Green Meadows with scenic view, pine forest & waterfalls. Also there are options of various adventure sports like, Trekking (situated near Peermedu in Idukki district), Mountaineering, Pock-climbing & paragliding. Adorned with magical meadows, mystical gardens, beautiful valleys, aromatic Tea plantations, Vagamon hills has surely earning its place among the best tourist places in Kerala.
People here love travelling across a chain of 3 famous hills:
1. Thangal Para in Vagamon has a picturesque view of mountains and lush greenery and is a holy site of Muslims. Not only Muslims, but other tourists also visit the place and get a soul-stirring experience. The site has a tranquil beauty & serenity. There is a rock and a tomb of Sheikh Fariuddin at the spot. Under the rock is a Mosque.
Murugan mala, a sacred mountain is at the distance of 4 km from Vagamon Bus stop. It is situated on the Eastern side of Kurusumala Hill in Vagamon. Murugan mala is a small hill famous for a splendid rock-cut temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. It’s not only an ideal place for devotees of Lord Murugan but also for Nature lovers & avid photographers. It has a spectacular terrain that makes a great place for sightseeing in cool breeze, once you step out of the Murugan shrine.
2. Kurisumala, is a famous hill station with the peaceful Monastery at the top & also a pilgrimage center for the Christians. The nearby Kurisumala Ashram is an abode of calm and spiritual delight. The road of Kurisumala offers some real sightseeing of European model houses, man-made lake both designed by the renowned architect, Laurie Baker.
3. Justin point is one the top of the cliff to experience Sunset, took by the local jeep by driven by expert drivers. The view is just breathtaking from top.
Climate in Vagamon is cool compared to other parts of Kerala. Not recommended in Monsoons because of severe thunder & lightening. Vagamon can be covered either as a single day or 2- night stay trip or you can stay more nights to relax your body and mind.
